Tips for use and care of your newly paved driveway

    • To avoid breakage along the edges of your driveway, please keep them built up with gravel or topsoil.
    • The use of patio and lawn furniture on your driveway will leave indents where the furniture has been. This is most common on a newly paved driveway in the heat of the summer. Remember your driveway is black in color and therefore attracts the heat which makes is pliable. This is also true for power steering on cars and kickstands on children's bicycles.
    • In the event of a gas or oil spill on your driveway, immediately put baking soda on the spill to absorb the oil. Spills like this can soften and eat away the asphalt on a newly paved driveway.
    • It is best to stay off your driveway for at least 2 to 3 days to allow the asphalt to set up.
    • Weeds and dandelions are amazingly strong. If they happen to come up through any part of your driveway the best thing to do to stop them is to hammer a large nail down next to the weed. Remove the nail and pour week killer down the hole. After the weed dies, the asphalt that had lifted will settle down in place.
    • Asphalt sealing - This is not a necessity to have done but many people like to use it as a beautifier for an older driveway or as an added protector against gas and oil spills on a new driveway. It is recommended that you wait 60 to 90 days before applying sealer to new asphalt.
